
"You are what you eat, so eat well!"
No need to be strictly vegetarian to practice Yoga .... In the yogic tradition, food is divided into three different categories that explain the essence and the effects on our body and spirit: they are named Sattvic, Rajasic and Tamasic.
Sattvic: Yogi ideal food: the food is regarded as the purest, because they are fresh, chemical free, and usually straight from the source - including fruit and vegetables, grains, nuts, honey and milk. These foods increase the serenity and health.
Rajasic: Food fit to make you more "earthly" generally spicy and stimulating - this includes caffeine, all meat, eggs, and spices. They are believed to disturb the body and mind and make you more aggressive.
Tamasic: Usually highly processed and create dependency. The frozen meals (yes, even frozen vegetables), tinned, processed foods, chemically, and any food that was left in air for a while.The food "tamasic" increase laziness, stress and emphasis on fun.
Without any surprise, the food Tamasic represent the majority of what many Westerners eat.
The three types of foods have their place in a balanced diet, but most of us consume too much food and Rajasic Tamasic.
Climates, seasons, sounds, colors, darkness, light, elements, food, noise, silence, movement, rest, everything affects our machine, and our soul.
