Diarrhea: things to do, mistake to avoid

Sometimes accompanied by abdominal pain or bloating, diarrhea usually lasts no more than a few days. To better deal with them, here are some tips.

You must drink water if you have diarrhea

In case of diarrhea, it is important to hydrate thoroughly. Diarrhea causes a loss because of fluid that can cause dehydration of the body. This dehydration threats especially infants, the elderly or sick.

To prevent this, drink water, herbal teas or small amounts of soda (avoid those high in caffeine).
You can also drink water from cooking rice, a remedy of some gourmet grandmother but effective. In the case of severe diarrhea in adults (usually turista), rehydration solutions in pharmacy to buy or prepare yourself exist. That recommended by WHO? One liter of sterile water, mixed with six teaspoons of sugar and a teaspoon of salt.

What food for diarrhea?

Opt for smaller portions. Eat more often (6 times a day instead of 3 for example), so you can spread your food intake in small portions.

Say yes to homemade soup

The chicken broth or vegetable soup (carrots in particular) is easy to digest and allows simultaneously to hydrate the body. There's nothing like the soup house, without additives and without cream. It will save you in the process of acute diarrhea ... You can dive some pasta to make a more substantial meal.

Avoid mistakes while food intake

Some foods should be avoided in case of diarrhea:

    fruits, except bananas
raw vegetables and legumes (lentils, beans) ...
    dairy products
all fatty and sugary foods such as pastries, chocolate, stews, sausages ...

What to eat after the last episode of diarrhea

When symptoms subside, gradually reintroduce carbohydrates (especially rice) and fish or lean meats (skinless chicken)

When to see a doctor?

In case of fever, blood in stool, stool very frequent (more than 10 times a day) or if diarrhea persists for at least 3 weeks. Diarrhea is a symptom not a disease. It can be a sign of severe infection or early bowel disease. Feel free to check.
